Caption file not importing because of genetic error

Question

I have 5 .srt caption files that were sent to me for a project. When I first imported them yesterday, they all worked fine and there were no issues. I opened up the project today to see that one of the files was offlined, despite the fact that I haven't moved anything around in the project folder. When I tried reimporting, I received an error message for a "genetic error".

I do not have access to the project where the captions were made so I can't re-export them.

don't know what's going on, but you might try getting title exchange pro

It seems to be free now (I paid for it back in the day) and it saved my life a few times. It's not particularly user friendly, but you might try converting to another format...
