Captions issue

I've been recording all week in Premiere Pro, doing voice over on slides and then creating captions on these with no issues.

Until today where I've done everything as usual in editing, but when I go to the 'workspaces', 'captions and graphics' I basically get the greyed out buttons that I would usually use to create captions/transcript. There is definitely narration/sound there so I'm confused as to what's happened this time.

I'm thinking it's me and I've clicked or done something to disrupt this, I'm a new user and my colleague and I are self-taught. I've tried searching for the same issue but nothing quite the same comes up.

I'm using Windows if that helps and only recently (in last 2 weeks, got Pr installed)

Can anyone help as I need to get captions back up and running on this.

Hi Amelia,

Thanks for the message. You say your issue is that the Captions and Graphics workspace buttons are greyed out in Premiere Pro, even though narration is presentm, right?

Here are some steps you can try:

  1. Reset the Workspace:
Go to Window > Workspaces > Reset to Saved Layout. This can fix UI glitches where buttons or panels become unresponsive.
  2. Launch with Reset Options:
Hold Shift while launching Premiere Pro. In the dialog that appears, check:
    • Reset Preferences
    • Delete Media Cache
    • Reset Plug-in Loading Cache
This can restore disabled features or resolve hidden conflicts.
  3. Test in a New Project:
Create a new project, add a clip, and try transcribing. If it works, the issue may be specific to your current project.
  4. Check Track Visibility:
Make sure the caption track is visible and enabled. If the track is hidden or muted, caption tools may appear disabled.

If the issue persists, let us know what version of Premiere Pro you're using and whether this happens in all projects or just one.

Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,

Kevin
