CC 2018 and .mts files: video and audio out of sync

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me here. I've been recording events and lectures with a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX730/AVCHD Progressive). The resulting video formats are .mts files. I used to edit with Premiere Cs5 and had no problems but since I upgraded to cc 2017 and then 2018, Premiere doesn't seem to support these files anymore.

In a nutshell: when I play the videos in VLC, there are no problems. However, when I import the footage in Premiere, the first clip is in sync but up from the second clip, the video and audio tracks of all the other clips are out of sync.

I tried to solve this by doing research on the internet but didn't find any answer. I also found out that I wasn't the only one to have this problem and I'm wondering if it isn't a general bug with Adobe. So I thought either someone can help me out by giving me the right instructions to sort this problem out or if there are no solution, someone might have an idea as for finding a good converter (without quality loss if possible) to re-encode the video clips.

Thanks in advance!

LN

    Hi LN,

Try using this utility on your clips which encodes your audio while leaving your video alone. I think this might solve your issue: https://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/index.html

Let us know if it works for you.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I recently found I was experiencing the same problem. I shoot on an older Panasonic HMC150, which uses the .mts wrapper. Never had a problem importing multiple files until the 2018 "upgrade." After the first file, the second file on the timeline was out of sync by 10 frames.

The solution for me was to advance the audio track by 10 frames and that put the entire group of clips in sync again. However, it's a terrible solution. Although the clips are in sync, now there's a brief but noticeable dropout when the next file starts.

Adobe says they've changed the decoding and encoding support for Dolby decoding, but I have no idea why that should impact .mts files this way. Once again, Adobe takes a step forward then five steps backward and breaks everything. I've downloaded the legacy 2017 version, and will do a complete wipe of my drive and reinstall. More wasted time.

    1. Make sure you're using Windows 10.
