Choppy Playback With Even BASIC Projects
I have been using adobe for a couple years now on an older rig. I've always had pretty choppy playback in the sequence with my 2.7k or 4k gopro footage, especially if I add text on top or adjust the colors with luts or lumitri. I tried for a long time to troubleshoot the problem and would find others with the same issue as me, and the vets on this forum would chime in and suggest some sort of hardware bottleneck. I always assumed it was my computer. WEll I recently upgraded my computer, same issues with playback. So I threw in the towel, upgraded again, and bought a top of the line 24 core i9 processor rtx 4070ti, 96gb ddr5 ram, fresh windows 11 install, and even with all that I STILL get choppy playback using adobe. I'm starting to think it's just a crap program. I've got no issues with Resolve.... I've got GPU hardware acceleration turned on, have over 80gb of ram allocated to premiere pro, and it still can't give smooth playback? How does anyone use this program? Is there something obvious I'm missing here? Do I really have to make proxies for every video file, even for simple edits?
I've got the latest version of adobe , windows 11 with all updates, very new upper end computer. If I open adobe, import a video, change the color saturation to 170, and attempt playback, it's choppy and looks horrible. I get one frame every few seconds and there is a red bar near the playhead in the sequence.
I'm ready for an expert to chime in here. If I can't get smooth playback with this setup then it is 100% a problem with Adobe Premiere Pro. I can finally, confidently say, its NOT my computer anymore. It's either a setting in premiere pro, or the program can not function as it was designed to.
