Chroma keyer (Ultra) vs Secondaries in Lumetri

There is a solid chroma key engine in the Lumetri secondaries, but that level of accurate chroma targting ('add' eyedropper, hue, sat and lum sliders and falloff controls) is not available in the Ultra Key.   Why is this level of control not carried across to the keyer?

Correct answer PaulMurphy

You can use the HSL Secondary section in the Lumetri Color panel to create a matte and then use the Track Matte Key effect to perform the keying. Here's how:

  1. Duplicate your clip and place the copy on Track 2.
  2. Select the clip on Track 2 and open the Lumetri Color panel.
  3. In the HSL Secondary section, define your key using the Set Color eyedropper and refine with the Hue, Saturation, and Luma sliders.
  4. Enable Show Mask and set the mask output to display as white on black.
  5. On the original clip in Track 1, apply the Track Matte Key effect.
  6. In the Track Matte Key settings, set the Matte to Video 2 and choose Matte Luma as the composite method.

Thank you @PaulMurphy, now THAT is a very clever answer indeed.   Going to immediately implement this, as it seems it will make for a far better key than I can achieve in Ultra Key.

Premiere team - please try and carry the keyer within Secondaries across to a proper Chroma Keyer.

They are built for different uses.

Ultra key is primarily thought of for green or blue screen working, while Lumetri Secondaries is designed for keying on anything.

That's not my point.   The egnine and toolset to give fine chroma key control is clearly there, but why aren't those tools availble in the keyer, where they are needed?  PP has pretty terribe Chroma keying cabilities.

No clue, of course. Users never know that sort of thing. Only what we've been told about things.
