Question

Clip name from source clip

Is there a way for Premiere to take the clip name that displays in the timeline from the source clip? The workflow at work requires renaming our clips in Name Changer, but when I link to the newly renamed clips, the old clip name shows up in my timeline.

So, do you edit with one clip and then rename that clip in to OS, (so your original isn't around anymore) and then you want to relink that clip to that file with a new name?

I want to take a clip I plan to send to a colorist (4444), change the filename in Finder (to include VFX shot #, etc.), then Link Media to the renamed clip. When I do this, the clip name in the timeline does not change to reflect the renamed media it's linking to.

Hi KazuTa,

Have you tried enabling the option Show Source Clip Name and Label under Timeline Display Settings (wrench icon on the timeline)?

Thanks,

Sumeet
