Color Correction Question

Hi all,

I am new to Premiere Color Correction features and just looking for some advice regarding a multi-camera dance piece. Working with synced footage from a dress rehearsal and show ~ unfortunately the color of the back lights hitting the cyc were different between the dress (pinkish/purple hue) and show (greenish/orange) Pics attached below. I kept all camera settings consistent.

Is it crazy to attempt to match these somehow (hopefully without altering skin color too much?) Any recommended effects or ideas on how to do that?

Would love any feedback/opinions on whether or not it's worth it to color correct to match these 8 camera angles or to just edit with 4 cameras and forget about the others to avoid jump cuts in background color.

Thanks!!

I'm agreeing with Jim ... stick to one or the other. Trying to change the color would take someone with amazing skills in probably AfterEffects or Resolve ... and cost a bunch. If you tried to do it without say purple edges on performers while the background is green and such ...

Trying to work multiple performances requires a totally static show ... the costumes, lighting, and sound are the same all performances. Even then, within scenes, the pacing/timing will be slightly off show to show. So one angle in a scene from X performance might be able to be used within other shots from Y performance, but might take fiddling around a bit. And especially working sound to blend with images/performances.

I once shot a play two nights in a row for different angles.

Once.

My advice, include only the show cameras.  Ignore the rehearsal.

hmmm, what a bummer. I think you're stuck with one or the other. Were those cameras fixed (static) ? Or do you have to deal with focus pulls and panning/tilting issues as well as how well the talent did ?  Hopefully, everyone did well ( one take, yikes ).

I doubt if it's worth considering this, but I noticed the color from background is reflected in the floor, but it's not quite as obvious as seeing the cyc lights. If you did a project, say in 720p but shot in 1080p, it might give you room to scale a little and use some shots where you just see the floor and talent ( in essence like zooming in a bit on the lens and moving image location in frame using motion controls). Could also maybe give you more overall control over cropping nicely anyway ??  You can always just scale down the 1080p to fit full frame, or you can leave at 100% and have the zoomed in deal.

Looks like nice project, good luck. But in my opinion, forget about trying to do anything with those colors...

Another idea, you probably already thought of, is if there is a really really big MOOD swing in the dance (music score) then 'maybe' you could switch ONCE from one cyc to the other as if the lighting changed during that moment for a purpose. I can't see that working more than once though.
