Color glitch on renders from 2026

I’m on a Mac pro with Tahoe, and newest version of Premiere 2026 (but it’s happened on all versions of 26 prior). My edit previews fine inside premiere, but on render, at a random frame, the video will suddenly get very dark, as if there’s an adjustment layer with curves over it (there isn’t). This happens whether you render from Premiere or Media Encoder, and the glitches are always in the same place (I say glitch, but it’s not just a single frame, it’s multiple seconds where the darkness happens and then disappears again, and appear later).

Exporting as XML back to 2025 does not have this issue, renders perfectly. Copying the clips to AE and rendering from there also does not have the issue (but takes way too long and loses color data, not a realistic solution).

Troubleshooting revealed that rendering as ProRes 422 or 422 LT actually does not produce the issue, but rendering as ProRes 422 HQ (which is what I need), ProRes 4444 or 4444 XQ all produce the glitch.

What was your media shot with, and what is the codec?

Go to Lumetri Color > Settings and let us know what the color settings are.

They are .R3D files, Rec. 709.

But it happens on prerendered MOV files from AE as well.
