Comments added to Clip Markers disappearing

I’m having an issue where comments that are added to clip markers are disappearing/changing.  I’m using a workflow/method that has worked almost flawlessly for years.  For instance, I was logging an interview and adding markers with comments to the clip in the Source monitor.  I’ll hit M to add the marker and I’ll add my comment.  If I have to add to or edit the comment, I will do that in the Marker Panel while I continue to watch the interview.  About half way through the interview, I went to check something in an earlier marker and I noticed that any comment edits I made were gone.  A similar but far worse thing happened the other day with a different interview when all of the comments changed to “Comment.”  All of the markers are still there but the very detailed log notes/comments are either gone or altered and that’s a very serious problem.

All of the XMP options are unchecked and I am definitely adding clip markers.  I’ve tried all of things I’ve seen mentioned on various forums like resetting the workspace but those seem to fix missing markers which isn’t my issue.

Technical Details:

Two editors working in a Premiere Production (both having the same issue)

Premiere 25.6.5 (Build 4)

Mac Studio M2 Max

Sonoma 14.8.7

MXF files from Sony FX9 with audio from mixer sent to camera

I really hope there is a really simple fix for this.  It is very frustrating.

I just did a test and this is what I noticed.  While watching a clip in the source window, I add a marker and a comment in the marker window that pops up.  I watch a little more and add another marker and comment but this time I go to my marker panel and some more info to the comment.  When I add a third marker, the added text to the second marker disappears.  I have duplicated this on both computers in the Production and in a separate stand alone project.

and Paul, I just noticed your comment - The media for each interview exists in each individual interview project.

Does the media live in a separate project to the one you have open while you’re adding markers? That might suggest there is a syncing issue or conflict within the Production.

    Hi Jon,

Sounds odd. When do the comments disappear—immediately, after saving, after reopening the Production, or after another editor opens the project?

    • Can you reproduce it in a brand-new project with a single MXF clip, or only in this Production?

    • Are both editors ever opening the same project within the Production?

If it reproduces in a new project on 25.6.5, this is likely a bug rather than a workflow issue and would be worth reporting with reproducible steps. I hope we can assist you.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

I’m not entirely sure when it happens.  In my most recent case, it happened while I was working.  I had the project open and I was actively logging a two hour interview.  I know I saved along the way but I can’t say how many times.  It was a similar scenario when they all changed to “Comment.”  There have been a few times when I opened something in the morning and noticed the logging I had done was gone.  It’s not consistent either.  Sometimes my marker comments work like they’re supposed to.

The way I have this Production set up is that each interview or verite scene is its own Project so myself and the other editor can log or make selects or whatever and then we will each have our own projects for cutting.  We will both have the interview/verite projects open at the same time but we’re just using them as bins to pull from.  We’re in the early stages of this doc so there aren’t a lot of times yet when both of us will have the same project open.

I’ll try marking up something in a project outside of the Production.
