Constant, unexpected crashes in Premiere Pro - Computer restarts itself
Hi Adobe Community
We experienced constant, unexpected crashes in Premiere Pro since we signed up for CC 2017.
I took a real project we're working on to document the whole process.
We record RED Epic Digital Cinema Camera and our goal was to go through one whole project with Original 5K R3D Files, since PP can work with those files natively. The raw material is located on a NAS (Synology RS3412RPxs) and is connected via 10Gig Ethernet and AFP Apple Filing Protocol.
Before editing i import all the R3D Files and creat proxy files for each Clip.
The project consists a 10 minute statement with one additional external audio layer. The job then was, to create several graphics for the start, during and for the end of the statement. Some graphics i created in Photoshop and some i created with the function „replace with after effects composition“ since some graphics need to have small, smooth animations in it.
During the project i started to create a list, to document how, when and how often crashes occur.
I’ve gone through 31 crashes in about 10 days never working longer than 2 hours in PP. 7 of those crashes ended at the login screen of our Mac. 3 of them ended with a restart done by the computer itself.
When encoding the 10 minute project in Media Encoder we are not able to do other work on the computer (CPU Used: ca. 1300%) – otherwise it will crash and end up at the login screen.

We already have gone through some troubleshottings like:
- keeping the whole project on the desktop instead of the NAS System
- Choose the OpenCPL/Software rendering setting instead of CUDA
- Encode 5K R3D Files to 1080p ProRes Files
- Close all applications while working in PP
- Reset application preferences
- Make a new account on the mac
Is someone experiencing similar issues with CC 2017?
I hope someone has a solution even if this means our mac is too old to handle CC 2017 😉
Thanks in advance!
