Hi, i am an Avid Editor who is slowly transitioning to Premiere.

In Avid one of the most common Short Cuts is use is liftig the clip direct from the timeline in the Source Montor  - it is not copied, the clip is no longer in the timeline.

Then i place edit it on another place in the timeline.

Is a short cut i use all the time at avid and i can work pretty fast.

Does anyone know, if there is a shortcut in Premiere Pro?

i can put the clip via mouse in the source monitor and then edit it, but the same clip is still in the timeline, so when i put on a new place, i have the same clip twice.

thanx

In Premiere Pro, you can use the Lift shortcut to achieve a similar result. When you lift a clip from the timeline, it removes the selected portion and copies it to your clipboard, rather than loading it into the Source Monitor. From there, you can paste the clip wherever you need it.

Here’s how it works:

  • Lift: Use the Lift shortcut to remove the selected part of the clip and send it to the clipboard.
  • Move the Playhead: Place the playhead at the position where you want to paste the clip.
  • Paste: Press Cmd/Ctrl + V to paste the clip onto the same track at the playhead’s location.
  • Paste Insert: Press Shift + Cmd/Ctrl + V to insert the clip at the playhead’s position, pushing other clips forward.

Try using "f" (Match Frame).  Then use the exisiting In to Out or mark new ones, and "," (Insert) or "." (overwrite) back to the Timline.
