Hi guys, i have some issues

Hello everyone. I'm having an issue with Premiere Pro and GPU acceleration. I've seen many discussions regarding this topic but still haven't found any solutions. The problem is that when I use third-party plugins (specifically Sapphire or Dehancer) that utilize GPU acceleration, my timeline playback pushes my CPU usage to 100% and, more importantly, to 100°C. I've also noticed that even for raw MP4 H.264 clips imported straight from my camera to Premiere Pro, timeline playback utilizes my CPU resources, causing it to rise to 70-75°C in terms of temperature. GPU acceleration (CUDA) is indeed enabled in Premiere Pro settings, so I don't understand why Premiere Pro is only utilizing my CPU. I'v also checked my Nvidia drivers, there are all updated.

Here's my setup:

Windows 10 22H2
CPU: Intel i7-14700K

Ventirad : Deepcool AK620 digital
GPU: GeForce RTX 4070Ti Super

RAM : 32go

Premiere pro Version : 24.0.3 (build 2) (think it's the last version)

If someone can help me with this, it will be very gratefull. I'm on it since 2 days now.

Big stills like that, do seriously tax PP. Unless you are zooming way in, it would be good to cut those down to arounc 2000x2000.

If I were you, I'd start again, since you only have 3 days on it. I would put a clean install of Win11, it makes better use of some hardware components, inparticular performance and efficiency cores and when to use each one.

And, you don't need to overclock.

Well i installed a clean version of Win 11 (bye win 10), and i also tried to downgrade the images to 2000x2664. It seems to work way more better for dehancer, but sapphire stills got my cpu reaching 100°C. Maybe i should install the last version of the plugin. Also, i think I'm going to buy another PSU, i've seen on gigabyte that my PSU should provide at least 750W for my RTX 4070ti Super, the one i've got can only supply 700W of power.

In any case, thank you to everyone for your advice; it helped me identify where the problem was originating from.

I'd wondered about that PSU ... Puget suggested at least 800W for my computer a couple years ago, with "only" a 2080Ti. I wonder if you have data available on the power use wattage and the temp of the PSU ...

Premiere's coded to do certain things on the CPU, and certain things on the GPU if it is a GPU that Pr can use. Which would be the case for you. As long as it's using the Studio driver, of course. If you're running an Nvidai 'game ready' driver, you should install the newest studio driver in a "clean install" so it deletes all the gaming crud with the gaming driver that actually interferes with Premiere's operations.

You might get better performance also by going to 48 if not 64Gb of RAM.

Past that, you've got a decent system. How's the usage for say Lumetri? While you're running a clip with a bunch of Lumetri settings, does your GPU use move up?

Thank you for your response. I had understood that Premiere Pro doesn't always utilize the GPU, but I couldn't understand why it was using the CPU for plugins that claim to use GPU hardware acceleration. Regarding the drivers, I updated to Nvidia Studio, but I didn't see any improvement. However, I noticed that on another project containing 4K footage, the PC performed much better, even with a plugin like Dehancer activated. The difference with the timeline causing the CPU to heat up to 100°C is that it consists of a series of images (4000x5328) taken in burst mode, whereas my sequence is in 1080x1920. This might mean that the images have too high a resolution to be edited in Premiere Pro without encountering bugs?

That could cause performance issues.

I don't know really what is happening, but I can tell you on my 12900K, it would easily burn out with the stock settings. So, did you do any overclocking? My machine needed under-volting to run successfully - even with a small overclock - when the cpu-usage got near 100%. So, any special characteristics you can comment on? The TI super is pretty recent. Was it a clean install of Windows? If so, why not Win11?

I thought overclocking wouldn't be necessary since the processor has a turbo frequency of 5.6GHz. Do I need to overclock it to reach 5.6GHz? I thought it was a frequency that could be achieved without overclocking. As for Windows, it's a brand new installation I did three days ago, and regarding Windows 11, I would have preferred to wait because I've heard quite a few reports about its stability not being great. The only thing that makes me doubt is whether my power supply is powerful enough for my configuration. I have an Antec ATX 700W 80+Gold power supply.
