Question

Create Sequence From Clip not working

Hi all,

I have a broadcast file that has been correctly formatted so all I want to do is import it into Premiere and create a new sequence using this clip. The problem is when I do this Premiere creates a clip that doesn't have the same settings.

For example:

Source clip has multichannel audio (4 tracks) but Premiere creates a Stereo sequence

Source clip starts at 09:58:00:00 but Premiere creates a sequence starting at 00:00:00:00

I'm struggling to understand what the point of this function is when it doesn't even use the settings of the source clip to set sequence settings??

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers

It is working perfectly but you need to set up the audio in the Preferences before importing. Same goes for the start time.

    Preferences/timeline/default audio tracks.

    Prefenences/media/timecode.

Thanks for the reply Ann, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree with what the definition of 'working perfectly' is. The fact you have to set all the things manually makes the 'New Sequence From Clip' feature far from perfect. And regardless of that:

    - My timecode preference is set to 'Use Media Source' yet Premiere ignores the source timecode and new sequences all start at 00:00:00:00

    - My Default Audio Tracks are all set to 'Use File' yet Premiere ignores the source audio and create a stereo sequence

The Use Media Source preference changes how Premiere treats the timecode on a clip being ingested/imported - either by using the native timecode of the clip or (second choice) creating a new timecode that begins at 00:00:00:00 at the start of the clip.

That setting has nothing to do with creating a sequence's timecode - that is handled by the Start Time command for the sequence -

Where you can set the sequence to be set to matching the 1st clip's timecode, if that is what you want.

Again, the Use File has to do with how Premiere treats the file on ingest/import, not how a sequence is created.

On my system, I can import Sony XDCam clips which have 4 tracks of mono audio, if I select one of those clips and use Make New Sequence from Clip, I get a sequence that matches the video properties and with 4 tracks of mono audio that sum to a stereo output.
