Create Transcript & Captions Using .txt File from Client

Hello,

 

I have a client doing a video series and they spent time editing a .txt file to pass along for me to import and create captions for their video. I'm quickly discovering this isn't as clear cut as I thought and I have not been able to find a good way to convert the .txt file into something Premiere can read and transcribe into captions. If I auto generate the captions, I am essentially having to edit all of the text again and try and find the changes they made because I haven't been able to import the .txt file they provided.

 

Is there a way to convert an already edited .txt file into Premiere and make caption, or do I have to rely on the auto transcibe features?

 

Any advice would be appreciated. I am using the latest version of Premiere 25.0.

A possible workaround is to generate an auto transcript in Premiere, export it as a text file, then upload both the Premiere transcript and the client’s text file to an LLM (like ChatGPT). Ask it to correct the Premiere transcript to match the client’s text file in the same format, ensuring no new words are added. Once corrected, you can import this transcript back into Premiere for captions.

    You can import a 'corrected' transcript but it really needs to have been exported from Premiere first so they document you have is not likely to work.
