Created a new graphics text layer by going to Graphics > New layer > text, but can't actually edit text

Click on the text tool (the "T") in the timeline tool panel and then click in the Program Monitor and type there.
If you prefer to use the old (legacy) title tool, go to File > New > Legacy Title.
