Creating an EDL with mixed frame rates

I'm working in a project with sources with mixed frame rates.

The source timecode in my EDL is often off by a few frames, sometimes seconds.

Is there a best practice for exporting mixed frame rate EDLs?

Thanks so much!

Hi temes,

Thanks for the question. EDLs work best with simple timelines and consistent frame rates. When exporting from a mixed frame rate sequence, timecode drift can occur because Premiere Pro conforms clips to the sequence’s frame rate.

Here are a few tips to minimize that issue:

- Set your sequence to match the dominant or delivery frame rate.
- Transcode clips to a uniform frame rate before editing if possible.
- Use “Render and Replace” for clips with effects or speed changes.
- For complex timelines, consider using XML or AAF instead of EDL.

Let me know if you need help with a specific workflow. Hope this info helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

So helpful, Kevin! Thank you!

I will try the XML or AAF method.

Hi Kevin, would you be able to point me towards any resources re: familiarizing myself with the XML or AAF workflows?

Thanks so much.
