Cross dissolve issue

Usually cross dissolve works just fine and overlaps the two clips I'm trying to transition, but for these two clips it seems to only want to be on the clip to the right. Any ideas on how to get a proper transition? All help appreciated.

See the attached video for an example. As you can se in the beginning i cannot move the transitions.

And i should add that if one place two clips butt to butt and the transition is 24 frames it is not a must to trim both clips. Trimming away 24 frames from one of the clips is enough. Or trimming away 2 frames from one clip and 22 from the other, etc, etc.

try this. Move the second clip to the next highest video track and then add 1/2 the desired dissolve length to the beginning of that clip and add the same amount to the end of previous clip so you have overlap equal to the desired duration of the dissolve. If you cannot add anything to the outgoing clip, you do not have any additional material at the end of the clip. To confirm this, double click on the outgoing clip and it will load in the source monitor with the in and out marked.

However if you do have sufficient overlap, I have no idea what's going wrong, but you can just add a dissolve the beginning of the second clip or keyframe it's opacity and you'll have your dissolve...

As @gerikp points out you dont have enough media, or clip handles as Premiere Pro definies it.

I´ll do my best. It does not matter if the media has 4 or 400 minutes of media. The important thing is how much of that media are available for the transition. If you place two clips on the timeline, butt to butt, you must trim of some frames from the end of the left clip and some frames from the start of the right clip, frames that are needed for the transition. The amount of frames must be as long or longer than the transition itself.

In image A you can see that i have two clips and that the right clip has two white "dog ears", indication that the start of the right clip has not been trimmed. The clip to the left does not have those "dog ears" indicating that the clip has been trimmed/shortened. Image B shows how it will look if i place a transition between those clips.

Image C shows the same clips but this time i have trimmed off some frames from the start of the clip to the right with enough frames to make up for a transition. If i now apply the transitions you can see how it looks in image D.

So, if a you want a double sided transition that is 24 frames long, you must trim off at least 12 frames from the end of the clip to the left and 12 frames from the start of the clip to the right. (12+12=24) If you for example only trim of 24 frames (or more) from the clip to the right you will see what you see in image B.

This means that if you trim off some frames from your clip to the right using Ripple Delete or manually close the gap between if using the Selection Tool the transition should work. Now you should be able to move it and center it between the clips with your mouse.

I belive the problem is you don't have anough media in the clip to the left for the dissolve to work so Premiere is only putting it on the clip to the right. You have to have enough overlapping media for a dissolve to work.
