Cross dissolving text issue

Never had a dissolve issue like this before. I put a text in, dissolved the ends, but the fading only happens at the last half second of the front dissolve area and the first half second of the back dissolve area, no matter how long I make the dissolve areas. It usually fades in and out throughout the whole dissolve area. Any ideas about why it's doing this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
