CS6 withg new graphic Cards

Installing CS6 on a new PC with NVidia Geforce GTX 1060 Turbo 6GB show the "renderer" is not displayed in "projet settings" (drop-down is light Grey/inactive). Therefore, GPU-based rendering is not possible (I think).
After that I edited the file cuda_supported_cards.txt in \program\Adobe\Adobe premiere pro CS6 and I added between

  • GeForce GTX 580
  • Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB         (gpusniffer.exe shows the name)
  • NVIDIA® Tesla
  • Quadro FX 3700M

In the NVidia System control has changed the following:

3D managed settings \ program settings \ Adobe Premiere \ Muliti Display : global settings in "compatibillity - Performance mode"

But everything remains unchanged in the "project settings menu". the drop dwon-menü "renderer" remains light Grey (=inactive):

The render time for 60 seconds video-Clip (1920x1080 25fps / 20MBits / without effects) lasts 55-60 seconds: it takes just as long as before.

What can I still do for the GPU-rendering.?
(PC MSI 99 with i7-6800 / 32GB RAM / GTX 1060 Turbo 6GB / Win10)
Is a NVidia Quadro the better way for Rendering? (M2000 / M4000?)

Might want to read this on what cuda does and does NOT do.

When you type in GPSniffer.exe and you see the name of your card you must type exactly everything after Name:

Then you will be able to render using CUDA hardware.

I hope this helps anyone who is still using CS5.5 and CS6.

Thanks, but what are some of those effects that use GPU?

Did you click the link that Ann provided in her reply #3 ?

Excuse me, but I am a little confused. Do I understand correclty that there are some here who claim that their CS6 can exploit GeForce GTX 1060 6GB for also saving a file - not just real-time playback, but also for saving?

I tested Premiere CS6 and Premiere CC (trial) with full HD footage. With CC I can add loads of effects (like lens distrortion) and it is able to play it back in real time without any problems while CS6 is already struggling with already small amount of effects. Although it has found the GPU.

I can't much difference when I use CPU or GPU with my Premiere CS6 with GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

Also, with Premiere CC it seams like the file saving is also like twice as fast.

We have heard of some problems with multiple monitors.  Try just temporarily using only one monitor,  Then we may have to search the forum to see what the solution is for that multiple monitor problem

Thanks Bill. I’m now away from my PC until the weekend. I‘ll give a single monitor a try when I return.

Thanks Bill.  Unfortunately I'm still having no success with your driver 378.49.

Thanks for your prompt answers. I appreciate a lot.

The same 60sec.clip I have added several effects (slow Motion + Redgiant LUT+Cosmo+S-curve + Matrox Color Correction RGB+saturation+Luma Mapping / the whole clip is not rendered before / red line above time line!
    result:
    Rendering with Software: 59 sec
Rendering with CUDA : 60 sec  (with the effects mentioned above, the CUDA-Rendering should be faster)

    My wish:
    1. Please let me know, that Adobe confirm the usability of the NVIDIA GTX 1060 for CS6
    2. For other consumers: Please add the newer NVIDIA GTX cards to your Adobe recommended graphic cards list (such as GTX 980 / 1050 / 1060 / 1080) and add a txt-file with the added names of these Cards for Import in data-folder.

But perhaps (?) Adobe wants, that the customer will change to Adobe CC and a list with newer graphic cards working with CS6 will be counterproductive for Business
Thank you with kind regards from Switzerland

CS6 is an EOL (end of life) program as far as any ongoing development, and has been for several years now. They make it available as more of a courtesy than anything else, because of it's being a "one-time license" product ... but they've been very clear there is no updating of that program that will occur.

It's like most software companies ... a product from six years ago is not considered a major current asset. Or something they're going to work on. Whether QuickBooks, Adobe, or anyone else, really.

CS6 is old. 1060 is brand new. Might want to rol back a driver.

Might want to delete the text 6GB from the list.

Controlling the cuda-supported-card.txt-file, I wrote the name wrong:

    Geforce GTX 1080 6GB      (with f)

    instead of

    GeForce GTX 1080 6 GB    (with F)

now  you can chose "projekt Settings":

Mercury Playback engine - GPU (CUDA) or

Mercury Playback engine - only software

    running export 60sec-clip:
    1. with CUDA : 53 sec
    2. with Software : 53 sec

The same rendering / export time for GPU or software based Rendering! I think it must be different, when the GPU/CUDA works (GTX 1060 has 1280 Cuda cores).

What is your opinion: shall I have to change the graphic card in a normally Adobe listed one?
GTX above  GTX 580 are not listed. So, for example : Quadro 2000M (CUDA cores only 768) or 4000M (CUDA cores 1664)?
I Need only a better Performance in video-editing with Premiere Pro and After Effects (CS6!)
