Question

DCP export file size is too large

I have a question about DCP (Digital Cinema Package) and Premire Pro.

I tried to export a 30min live action film in DCP format using Premire, and the estimated file size is about 400GB.

According to information I found on the Internet, it is normal for the file size to be much smaller, such as 60 GB.

The output settings are described below. It would be helpful if you could answer any errors or possible mistakes.

Environment
Windows 10 intel core i7
Premire Pro CC 23.4.0

Preset 2K Digital Cinema - flat, 24fps
Format Wraptor DCP

Basic video settings
Video codec JPEG2000
Video Size 1990x1080 (Flat)
Frame rate 24
Field Order Progressive
Aspect Ratio Square pixels (1.0)
Bit rate 250 Mbps

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Hi,

I now have the same issue.

Same specs as yours and for a 90 minutes film the estimates disk space exceeds 1.2 TB.

Maybe @Warren Heaton10841144 could give some help. DCPs direct out of Premiere can work at times, and for others, not so much. But then, I've oft heard the same things from DCPs out of Resolve.

At times, the best advice is to do a "Master" export from the NLE, whichever one it is. Using a good format that is at least visually lossless ... such as ProRes 444 or something like that.

Then load that in a specific DCP creation application. Which can be a bit costly, but may have better specific results for specific needs.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Sir thank you for your response.

I tried and export of 300 seconds with an estinted 20 GB's but it only needed 700 MB's.

I think there is something wrong with estimation of file size.

Thanks

Hi @花奈5C8D,

I got your note. Thanks for the info. I hope you're doing fine today. Happy Friday! Have you solved the issue, or are you still having problems? Have you tried 23.6 yet? If not, try it and let us know if it works better. I've heard of similar complaints. If 23.6 is not working better, perhaps you can locate a different solution to export that DCP within better specs. I hope the community can assist you. I wish you luck.

Thanks,
Kevin
