Was working in the Premiere Pro program. drug a file from an audio recording device into the premier pro screen. Had a couple minor issues, deleted the file within premier pro workspace.... went back to source device and the original file is also gone form that device.....

Always a good idea to Copy media to a drive rather than work with it on a connected device.   Not sure what happened here, but it may not be Premiere's fault.    And always important to back up your media.  My mantra:  EVERY DRIVE WILL FAIL (EVEN SSD'S).  IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF IF, BUT WHEN.   When I get media for a job, I always back it up to a couple of drives and give one to the client...  Even having 2 backukps makes me nervous...

Sorry to hear you are having trouble finding your source audio file.

When you deleted the file from within the Premiere Pro workspace, did you select it in the Project panel or Bin panel and then choose  File > Make Offline > Media Files Are Deleted?  That's the only way to delete a file from both Premeire Pro and your storage media while using Premiere Pro.  Deleting the file from the Timeline, Project panel, or Bin panel only deletes the link to the file in the project and leaves the file on your storage media..

The audio file should be in its original location unless it was moved or deleted outside of Premiere Pro.

In Explorer or in the Finder, try searching your computer for the file type (AIF, WAV, MP3, etc.).  Hopefully, you can locate the audio recording that way.
