Deleting clip markers in a Production - is it safe to have "Write clip markers to XMP" on?

At work, we have a docuseries in a Production. The project I'm working in has an export that was exported with clip markers. I double click on the clip and clear markers in the Source Monitor; but every time I open the project, the clip markers reappear.

My understanding is that, in Settings, if I turn on "Write clip markers to XMP", after I clear the clip markers, the clip markers will stop reappearing. However, I was told to NEVER have "Write clip markers to XMP" turned on in a Production. Since this is at work, with multiple Editors, Assitant Editors, Story Producers, etc. in the Production, I don't want to do anything that's going to compromise the Production.

How do I make it so the clip markers stop reappearing?

@KazuTa the reason you shouldn't turn on the "Write clip markers to XMP" when in a Production, is to avoid exactly this. Any markers you add while that setting is on will get written to the media, and then potentially create a sort of circular loop for other users in the production where they won't be able to delete the markers.

In your case, I would do the following:

  1. Close the Production
  2. Turn on the Write Markers to XMP preference
  3. Create a new project
  4. Import the clip with the markers
  5. Clear the markers from the Source Monitor
  6. Save, close the project
  7. Turn off the Markers in XMP setting
  8. Resume work in your Production

That way you clear the markers from the media file, but aren't risking any issues in the Production.
