Difficulties with Essential Graphics Title Tool and titles

I absolutely hate the new title tool in Premier that came out with the spring update. It is supposed to be user friendly but it is the exact opposite. You have made a mediocre title tool worse. Congratulations!

Your website claims that the new tool is user friendly. It is not. I have been using NLE's for a decade and this is by far the worst. Even compared to Avid's from a number of years ago. I don't know how you screw up something so simple, but you did it. The controls are hidden and hard to find. It is not intuitive to update and change text. I don't understand how you thought this would be a good change.

Greetings dusansevic,

It's still there in the File menu. Do you see it? It's called Legacy Title. That said, it won't be available forever. Let us know your difficulties with titling and the newer tools and we'll try to offer help.

Take Care,
Kevin

It is now 2021 and it still sucks. Like A LOT. Object are hard to select, lines aren't even selectable. Shift still doesn't align even when trying to draw a line. Adobe, is it that hard to make some tools that work like they do in Illustrator?

I agree the new system is garbage. Thanks for making it so stupid. Why change it? Guess someone needed something to do to keep a job cause i don't see any reason for this crap.

Hmmm ... it can't do some useful things of the old one, but can do some things that the old one never could. Way past what it could. I much prefer the newer, and am looking forward to the next couple releases as even more gets allowed as far as what it can do.

To each their own.

So, I work for a company and 2 of us produce and edit video's .  I use premiere and my co-worker uses FCP.     I hate to say it although I'm considering switching to FCP because the admin are more impressed with how fast my co-worker outputs video.    We both output a ton of graphics and titles in these video's.   FCP has a much more robust titler and built in effects.   Essentially now FCP integrates Motion's templates and graphics which work in real time and Premiere does not.   For example.   If I want a grunge title, I need to leave premiere and go into AE and load the purchased Grunge font program.   Jump through a bunch of hoops to get the right font and animation then input back into premiere.    This process can take up to 15-20 minutes depending on the complexity.   My co-worker who uses FCP just clicks on a grunge font built into FCP and is able to input in a minute or two.    Essentially, he has alot more free time to plan and produce, where I'm always playing catch up.    It's frustrating to say the least and now the people who write my check are noticing.    I really wish, premiere integrated free, real time effects in their title and effect library.  There is a handful although nothing compared to the deep offerings of FCP.    One last point.   My co-worker gets these animations font's and effects for free in FCP.   I tend to pay out of pocket for the same animated fonts and effects as my dept put a hold on our budget for this year...  So it's also costing me money.

Understood. All the apps have different strengths, and different ... lacking areas. This is one that PrPro needs major continual work in, and that was what the EGP is a start for. The old titler was the second-most reviled "tool" of PrPro next to the closed/open captions tool, fascinating how it suddenly became beloved with a new one out. But that was more to do to a screwy rollout of the new toy than anything.

Things are shifting so fast these days ... and they do need some serious work in PrPro for both pushing the graphics farther and faster ... closed/open captions ... color correction ... some other things.

Sorry, but I think the new title tool is better than the old one.  Must open the Essential Graphics Panel to use it. You can alt drag the title clips to quickly duplicate unlike the old titler. And best of all, the text goes into AE unlike the old titler.

This is absolutely awful. Yes,  I put in a bug report. The Typekit won't connect. I teach at a college. It is not simple to get these types of things fixed. I just discovered there is no title tool and the fact that I am not in all caps is amazing. The Adobe Gal tutorial says if you hit control T the old title tool comes back up, but it doesn't work. I have the latest version and I am close to not being able to breath I am so angry. I am a media teacher, teaching basic video and title creation. The simplicity of the title tool was wonderful. Bring the old title tool back with Control T so I don't have to go into graphics at all. OMG.  Yes, I watched her tutorial. There is nothing good about this at all. If I want motion graphics I will go into AE.

I can't close Creative Cloud and reopen as the suggestions say, I am at the mercy of an IT department. This will make their heads spin. To say I am disappointed in Adobe doesn't begin to cover it. I have had to go through all their growing pains as a teacher since Adobe 6.5. This is the worst change ever.

And yes STOP TRYING TO BE LIKE IMOVIE OR FINAL CUT PRO WHICH DIED IF YOU DIDN'T HEAR. Stop changing things that worked.

I agree the new title tool is a massive leap in the WRONG direction. The old version was incredibly intuitive and clear, this new version with the Spring update is just horrible - clunky, and massively less user friendly - it SUCKS!

The old Titler is still mostly available ... they did remove a couple parts of it, but not much ... and it will be there for a while. So feel free to use it.

I rather disagree that the new tool is in the wrong direction ... yes, it's a massive change in the way it operates, but when you've actually seen a few minutes of it in operation, with the explanation of why certain controls will be in the ECP, certain in the EGP itself, it starts to make great sense ... mostly.

Having seen the demos done at NAB, so I know both what it can do (which is a lot more than it seems) currently, and what's planned for it, and the rationale behind moving to titles as graphics items that can be created & shared across Photoshop, AfterEffects & perhaps other Adobe apps, plus being a sharable Library item as it gets going down the road ... in not too long, the capabilities we will have will far outstrip the old Titler.

Which, I would also note, was next to closed captioning probably the most reviled PrPro tool around here ... until the EGP came out ...

My biggest frustration with the EGP is just that it doesn't have all the other tools already. Impatient I am. To the core.

You know I haven't taken the time to watch the videos. I don't like the change because to me it's not intuitive. I find making the changes I'm used to making is more difficult. And I have to pull up the old tool after getting annoyed with the new one.

It sounds like they have just changed the methodology though so I'll give the video a watch and see if they can win me over.

It is completely different ... no question. When I first saw it, I couldn't figure out how to do anything. So I understand your frustration.

However ... after watching some tutorials and seeing demos at NAB, I learned the reasoning behind why some parts are controlled via the EGP panel sections, and some via the ECP panel ... essentially, motion-type effects are in the ECP. Text-controlling things in the EGP. But there's a lot of gotchas in this thing for new users.

Look through the tutorials here ... the first is a good quick overview; the second, a five minute or so piece by James Strawn, one of the development team members of the EGP; the next two are longer, and far more detailed, from reTooled.net, and by the end you should be able to work away.

Over time, as the EGP gets more capabilities, it's going to be a very fine graphics tool. The roll-out wasn't handled in perhaps the best way, that's obvious.
