Dip to Black only starts increasing in brightness halfway through the transition

In this clip here with Dip to Black applied at the beginning, the clip only begins to get brighter halfway through the transition effect. But the entire first half of the transition, it's just completely black.

Some people might say that's how it's designed which I would question.. why?

But still, that's not how I would want the effect to work. I want it to start increasing capacity linearly from 0s to the end of the transition, kind of like, oh I don't know.. how the transition graphic is visually portrayed! 

This is not intuitive, and of course I know I can change the opacity of the clip with two keyframes to do it the way it's meant to, but that method is more time consuming and fiddly, esp when applying to many clips and just wanting to quickly change the length.
