Question

Do I need a new computer?

Premiere Pro 2020 is slow on this computer.  Reducing playback to 1/4 doesn't help much.  Yes, I know I'm working with an 8-year old unit, but currrent $ situation has me looking at other options, including hardware upgrades, to this computer before looking into a new one.  Any ideas?  Links to tips?

The problem is that you're working with an 8-year-old Mac that cannot be upgraded at all whatsoever. Compared to the officially supported maximum, you're already maxed out on the amount of RAM that it can support. And neither the CPU nor the GPU can be upgraded at all whatsoever. Worst of all, it is technically a "desktop" - but because of the lack of internal space inside, it came with only laptop-class components inside its permanently sealed case. (That 2012 Mac Mini had a removable panel - but only for the RAM slots. Nothing else is even user-replaceable at all.)

In other words, you're permanently stuck with what it already has. As a result of that, the only upgrade that you can make is an entirely new system. There is absolutely no way at all whatsoever around that, in your case.
