Does Premiere Pro automatically convert Pro Res files on PC?

I have footage shot in ProRes 422 (4K, 25p) - I've heard before that if you import ProRes files into Premiere Pro on a Windows PC, it'll automatically convert the files into a different format when they are imported? Is this true? And if so, what codec are the files converted into? Many thanks.

No. It can use ProRes files as-is, it just can't export them as ProRes.

You dont need to convert. Prores edits just fine on a PC.

Unless your pc has trouble with the 4K files.

If you enable the Transcode option under the Ingest tab in the Project Settings, then yes, PR will transcode clips on import (including ProRes).

File > Project Settings > Ingest Settings....
