Dragging media into timeline wont create sequence

I’m trying to drag the media into the timeline (no sequence yet), and it wont create a sequence. I’ve tried to right click the clip and then create sequence from there and it doesnt work.

There is no cursor blocking indication, nothing happens when i drag and drop.

I’ve also tried changing up some of the audio devices settings and clearing the media cache and whatnot too.

This is my first time using Adobe Premier and I really thought it would be much easier to use but this is the worst experience with software so far.

Edit 1:
I am now able to create the sequence, but dragging a .mov file into it doesnt come with the audio

Edit 2:
for the audio problem, here is everything i’ve tried so far-

Initial diagnosis (specific to the .mov file)

  • Confirmed source patching (V1↔V1, A1↔A1) was correctly connected
  • Confirmed the file showed "Contains Linked Audio" in Premiere
  • Diagnosed Variable Frame Rate (VFR) as the likely cause (file was a macOS screen recording, "Movie on [date] at [time].mov")

File-level fix attempt

  • Converted the file via Handbrake: Constant Framerate (30fps), AAC audio, Mono channel — confirmed correctly set
  • Re-exported and re-imported the converted .mp4 — VFR flag gone, file confirmed clean in Properties
  • Result: Audio still didn't appear on the timeline (A1–A4 created but empty)

Isolating file vs. Premiere

  • Confirmed audio plays fine in QuickTime (rules out file corruption)
  • Checked Modify > Audio Channels — Mono, 1 channel, properly mapped (ruled out channel mapping issue)
  • Tried New Sequence From Clip — same result, no audio
  • Tried loading into Source Monitor + Insert/Overwrite instead of drag-and-drop — same result

Escalating to Premiere/system-level

  • Cleared Media Cache (confirmed "Do not delete automatically" was already set, not the 1GB limit issue)
  • Checked Audio Hardware settings — CoreAudio, correct Default Output (MacBook Air Speakers), correct sample rate (48000Hz) — all looked correct
  • Confirmed 93GB free on boot drive (ruled out disk space)
  • Fully reset Premiere: Reset app preferences + Clear media cache + Reset plugin loading cache + Disable third-party plugins (all 4 boxes) — tested in a brand new project
  • Result: Still no audio, even on the reset/fresh project

Testing scope — is it really "all files"?

  • Bars and Tone test (Premiere's internal test tone) — works, both sound and image (rules out total system/output failure)
  • Imported a separate .m4a and .mp3 — waveform appears, but flat audio meters, no sound (confirms: any compressed audio format fails; only uncompressed/internally-generated audio works)

Ruling out plugin conflicts

  • Checked ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components — only Apple's own ASAF (spatial audio) components, no third-party plugins
  • Checked /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (system-wide) — empty, no third-party plugins at all

Really sorry to hear you’ve had such a problem creating a sequence and bringing the audio over! I’m also curious if you could upload the .MOV to test.

Are you on a Mac or PC? We’ll do our best to reproduce the behavior.

Can you share more details about the file using MediaInfo? That will help pinpoint what is going on.
