I'm new to editing and am trying to edit a 3 hour long video on my pc but the playback experiences terrible frame drops. I record at 1080p/60 and i run on a intel i9-9900k coupled with a rtx 3090. Even when trying to create a proxy it is is taking several hours any fix for this? (sorry for not being more specific i just dont know what to look for seeing that i am VERY new to editing).

Correct answer Sami Succar

Does it matter if the video is an mp4 (again sorry if these are dumb questions I am a COMPLETE novice).

mp4 is just a container, what really matters is the codec used and the compression ratio. But it shouldn't matter, just do small tests to see what works best for you.

What's the source of your recording? Is it a screen recording?

If so, try using handbrake to convert the footage before importing into Premiere. As screen recordings usually come with variable frame rates, which Premiere and other NLEs dont' handle well.

If not, let us know.

Constant framerate is definitely the way to go if you're planning to edit the videos.
