Dynamic link AE » Premiere but without audio

My workflow involves a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between AE and premiere. For example, I'll animate a little burst or a lower third in AE (which doesn't have an audio counterpart) and then link it via Dynamic link into Premiere. The problem I have is that even without an audio track anywhere near AE comp, it still links with an audio track. Of course the audio track is empty, but it upsets my workflow because I have to cancel the drag, mess with the track targeting and then redrag and hope it doesn't cut into my music track, then unlink the AV of the linked comp and delete the audio track so it doesn't overwrite anything in the future if I have to move things around.

Please tell me I'm missing something stupid. How do I ensure my AE comps don't import into Premiere with an empty audio track?

Thanks in advance.

You're right - AE comps insist on coming in with an audio track even when there isn't any in the original comp.

Instead of what you currently do, use this workflow:

- Import your AE comp as usual.

- In the Project panel, double-click it to load it into the Source Monitor.

- From the Source Monitor, click directly on the Drag Video Only button and then drag the clip to your timeline.

This way you won't have to mess with any targeting or have to delete any unwanted tracks.

If you must use keyboard shortcuts, create a Source Assignment Preset that has no audio tracks patched, and assign a keyboard shortcut to it. Then apply that preset and then use the insert/overwrite on your AE comp, and only the video will come in.

I've been having the same problem as well. I don't know if this helps, but if you right-click the linked comp within Premiere, you can modify the properties of the composition and delete the audio channel associated with the comp.

Of course, you need to repeat this action each time you import a new comp, so it may not be the best workflow.
