Dynamic Link Issue With After Effects 3D Layer Text Flipping

Hi,

I have a project where I am using dynamic link to import an AE composition. The composition in AE uses text on a 3D layer. When this comp is used in Premeire, the text flips 90 degrees at a certain place in the timeline. However it works fine in AE, and when I export out the comp from AE into a video file, it looks fine there as well. Also if the imported comp is placed in the Source Monitor and played, the flipping does not happen. Only when the comp is placed on the timeline does it flip. Also tried starting a new project, but got the same results. So the problem does not appear to be in AE at all, but how Premeire is interpreting the compostion using Dynamic Link.

Hi @leejk,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a while since you filed this bug. Are you still having this issue? If so, can you please let us know?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Hi,

I solved it, but I think it is still reprodicuble in latest version of AE. This forum should allow zip files. I did finally figure out how to attach the test files. Open the Premeire project and scrub the timeline to see the text flip.

BTW, can you pass this bug along to the Bridge team? Their forum does not work!!

Bridge generates dark thumbnail previews when previewing a folder full of EXR files. The only way to fix this is to toggle the thumbnail preview settings in the upper right hand preview options drop down, to something different and then back. Then select all the EXR files and purge the chache for them. It will then generate the correct thumbnails. The problem is that this must be repeated each time you restart Bridge. So when working in AE and using EXR files, this becomes annoying, and has been broken for like 4 years I think.

Unfortuantely I only have access to SharePoint here and not allowed to use anything else. In order to use that however I would need a valid email address to generate the share link. The file is only a few hundred kilobytes so could be sent thru email easily, but how to do that?

Hello,

I made a simple test project zip but how do I upload it here? Perhaps you can shoot me an email and I will send it to you. Around 3:19 is where the text flip occurs when scrubbing the timeline.

Whoa! That is really unexpected.
A frame rate difference shouldn't flip things around but only cause a red render bar over the track item in your Premiere Pro timeline at worst. If you wouldn't mind sharing your AE project, a screen recording in Premiere, and what versions of AE and Premiere you're using when you get a chance that would be awesome.
Sounds like a weird issue that needs hunting down.

Thanks so much!

Hi,

While making up a test project to send I think I found the issue. The comp in AE is set to 29.97fps, but the sequence in Premiere Pro that uses the comp was set to 30fps. Changing the sequence to match 29.97fps fixed the issue. If that was expected then my error I guess, if not I can still put a test project together. I'm using latest released versions of both programs on Windows 10.

Hi @leejk

That sounds weird!

  • What version of AE and Premiere Pro are you using?
  • What are your system specs?
  • Are you using Classic 3D, Advanced 3D or Cinema 4D Renderer?
  • Lastly, can you please share a project and a screen recording of what you're seeing?

Thanks,

Dacia
