Dynamic Link not working - "The project could not be opened"

Hey guys,

I had a freak incident occur yesterday and it seems impossible to fix.

Out of nowhere suddenly all of the AE Dynamic Link clips in my PremierePro timeline disconnected. The AE project file itself seems fine, when I open it directly. However, when I try to relink the individual clips, I get the following messages:

"The project could not be opened" and then a window pops up saying "File Import Failure".

I tried everything to remedy the issue. Restart my machine, clean the caches in PremierePro and AE, as well as saving the AE project under a new name. Unfortunately I can't reconnect the AE project files.

Can anybody help me please? It's really urgent!

Thanks a lot.

Hi Ferdinand83,

Thanks for posting in Adobe forums. It seems like an issue with version conflict. Dynamic Link feature only works when both Premiere Pro & AfterEffects are of the same version.

Have you updated Premiere Pro recently? Please check the exact dot version FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?

Here are the compatible versions for Dynamic Link. Using Dynamic Link between various versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects

Thanks,

Vidya

Hi Vidya,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just checked. Premiere Pro is Release 2017.1.1 (Build 11.1.1 (15)), while After Effects is Release 2017.2 (Version 14.2.0.198). Does that combination cause trouble?

Best, Ferdinand

Hi Vidya,

I left Premiere Pro at release 2017.1.1 (Build 11.1.1 (15)) - otherwise I couldn't have opened my project file - but rolled After Effects back to release 2017.0 (Version 14.0.0.207) and now the Dynamic Links are working again.

Thanks for helping me to sort that out. Is there a way to know which versions will work together, before I contemplate my next update? Is the web page you linked to kept up to date? I tend to update my programs whenever a new version comes up, but if this is causing compatibility issues, I'll have to tame that.

Best, Ferdinand
