Dynamic Linking Issue: Clip not transferring over

I have installed the most current versions of Premiere and After Effects.  I start with having both programs open.

1. Right-click a clip in the Premiere timeline.
2. Choose 'replace with After Effect compostion'
3. A composition populates in After Effect but there is no clip.

I tried doing this by starting with After Effects not open.  Same result.

Hi vinnydego,

We're sorry to hear about this. Are you getting any error message when you try to replace the clip with After Effects composition? Is this happening with any specific project or all of them? Also, please let us know the exact version of Pr & Ae that you are using.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Hi, @vinnydego:

Sorry to hear that Replace with After Effects Composition isn't working as expected.

Have you tried restarting your computer?  Sometimes that gets Dynamic Link to work as expected.

Another thing to try is to copy and paste the Clip from your Premiere Pro Sequence to an After Effects Composition.  This can be a little tricky if you haven't done it before.  The Clip or Clips copied paste the the same time location, so the Comp needs to initially be at least the same duration as where the Clip is in the Premiere Pro Sequence.  After pasting to After Effects, set the Work Area to the start and end of the Clip(s) and then press command/control shift x to trim the Comp the the Work Area.  Save that project and then import it into Premiere Pro, selecting the Comp and inserting or overwriting it into your Sequence.  I know this isn't an ideal work around, but it might keep you working while you figure out why Replace with After Effects Comp isn't working as expected.
