I'm using a Mac laptop and have finished my film but need to add effects so I go to the effects panel and I can't see my video or timeline only the name of a specific clip?? The effect I want to use requires me to use a mask so I need to edit it on the effects panel but can't because I can't see my clips? Any help?

Well... your Timeline panel is not open, or at least visible in that shot. Switch back to the Editing workspace and see if you get your timeline back. You can open effects control panel, and the effect panel (list of effects) in any workspace.
