Question

Editing Existing Text, Zooming in on a portion of a clip.

Hey Guys,

Apologies in advance, but i am very new to permiere pro and to video editing in general. So sorry if this is stupid.

I have a video clip and there is writing in the upper left hand corner of the entire clip, i would like to select just the writing itself, and then zoom in on that. How might i do that?

I know i can use various tools to zoom in on the entire clip, move the position of the clip, but i just want to select the specific text and zoom in on that. To be clear the video was recorded with the text displayed. (I didnt add it via the Text Tools).

Thanks,

Robert

As Neil has noted - if the text is part of the existing video then you cannot separate it out and independently zoom it.

What you could do though is this:

retype the text using the text tools and try to match the font, size and position of the existing text as best you can.

Now you can 'zoom' this text layer out to any size or position you want. Of course the original text will still be in the top left hand corner - but depending on what you are trying to achieve this may be acceptable?

Add a short dissolve at the point your 'new' text zooms out to hide any differences between it and the original text.

If it all happens fast enough it might look OK.

Not a bad idea. I will keep the suggestion a try in another video. Thanks.

Then that text is just part of the video clip. So all you can do is use the Motion effects in the Effects Control panel for size/position to close-in on that section of the overall image. It's not in any way separate from the rest of the image.

Thanks Neil. So what you are saying is, since the text is actually part of the clip itself, and not an overlay or something similar then there isnt anything i can do to just select the text and zoom in on it? I just want to make sure i am clear on your reponse.

Thanks,
