Editing in 4k timeline, exporting in 1080p

So im recording in 4k, editing in a 4k timeline, but the 4k export time was so long, that I exported it in 1080p instead, so my question is, will recording and editing in 4k and then exporting in 1080p lead to better quality than recording & editing in 1080p to begin with?
