Question

Editing large video file

I have recorded a 3 hours video in 2560x1440 (file is about 5gb). I would like to clip the video in small parts and also speed them up.

I am running into issues because then speeding them up (1000% speed and more), I get major lags/buffering.

I tried "rendering" the clip thinking it would help to "bake" the effect into a file of its own, but it doesn't render the speed up effect. I just get a video of the clip atn ormal speed.

Also, this might be another subject, but the files produced with the render are ENERMOUS. Like 3gb for 10 mins or so.

Basically my question is : how should one handle things when trying to cut a 3 hours video in many small clips and speed them up. what the best methodology.

Thank you

P.S: I am very new to Premiere so I don't know the best practices and terminologies.

The size (and quality) of the rendered video is largely driven by the chosen codec and bitrate. E.g. ProRes will eat up more space than an h.264/h.265 codec, while the chosen bitrate will mostly determine the final size. This is a trade-off between high quality (high bitrate) and low quality (low bitrate).

Just because the camera is able to shoot at 3/4/6/8k does not mean that it is wise to do so.

What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?
