Question

Editing & playback is becoming inconsistent, choppy too. Freezing with white and black screens too.

Had this issue with 2025 so I decided to update, I'm now in the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro 2026. My 4k 23.98 FPS project is suddenly being a lot more choppy in playback. This wasn't the case in the months of Sept 2025 - Early January 2026. It's been very inconsistent with playback speed. sometimes it's smooth and other times it's struggling. Regardless if playback quality is set to Full or 1/8. I'm on a intel i7-12700k processor with a RTX 3060 GPU. 32 GB of DDR5 ram. I have CUDA enabled too. Currently have Nvidia’s STUDIO drivers enabled too, not the game ready ones, but i was editing using the game ready ones as I also like to game on my system + wasn’t giving me any trouble at all until late last month.

I have 508 GB out free storage too. My drivers are also updated as well. I feel like, my CPU or fans aren't working as they should when editing in Premiere because normally if Premiere pro was lagging, i'd at least hear my fans ramp up and get hot? But I get none of that either.

Footage is 4k 8-bit from a GH5 camera, again never had issues with it in premiere or final cut pro on my mac.

My project is little over an hour, there are some effects like green screen and some parts with lot of layers but again, even back in December, it wasn’t being so choppy in playback yet alone freezing..

If the problem is this one project, try creating a new project, and in the MediaBrowser panel, select the old project, right-click, and Import the project assets. Some times that help for weird junk.

Unfortunately, tried that but i think it made it worse.

I will say this though, today I’ve simply only used my computer just for editing in premiere. no other apps like my web browser or discord open and active, which i think helped premiere run smoother since the other apps can take up memory. So far I’m just going to savor in this moment of it behaving well and I can’t wait to finish this edit (it’s a film).

Quick note: All the other premiere projects I have, opening them and editing.. is completely normal behavior!!
