Editing video footage from Samsung S23 Ultra phone in Adobe Premiere Pro: colors don't match

Hello community,

 

After many hours of researching online about how to solve this problem, I'm still totally lost.

 

My video recording settings on my Samsung S23 Ultra phone:

Video resolution: 4K

HEVC (high efficiency) / H.265

HDR10+: on

 

When I open this video file on my laptop in the VLC media player, it shows the correct (original) video footage (with the correct colors and exposure). See picture 1

When I open this video file on my laptop in Adobe Premiere Pro, it shows the video footage as underexposed / washed out colors / undersaturated. See picture 2

 

My question is: how can I edit my video footage in Adobe Premiere Pro in the normal colors and exposure, like in the original video footage on my phone / VLC Media Player?

    You're capturing in HDR, but do you want to export HDR or SDR/Rec.709?

     

    You can do either or both easily... IF ... you set your entire Premiere color management correctly.

     

    Go to the Color Workspace, Lumetri panel, Settings tab. The one named Settings.

     

    Display Color Management on, for Macs, Extended Dynamic Range also.

     

    Auto detect log and auto tonemapping both on. They are interactive, note. You need both.

     

    Set your Sequence color space to what you wantcto export to, and use export presets whose color space matches your sequence.

      I create beginner-level videos (Youtube videos). My standard export settings are Rec.709.

      I always used the Adobe Premiere Pro version 2022. When I do a colorspace override to Rec.709 in the 2022 version I get those wrong colors and exposure, but when I do exactly the same thing in the 2024 version I get the correct colors and exposure!

      So I'm very happy that the problem is fixed! But it would still be interesting for me to know about what the problem exactly was. What did the 2024 version do that the 2022 version couldn't? I guess it has something to do with the ''Auto Tone Map Media'' ?

        Did you read my post?  There's clearly that new CM tab in the Lumetri panel ... where the settings are I talked about above.

          Hello, 

          To access clip properties, select the clip in the bin, right-click, choose Modify, then Interpret Footage. In the dialog that opens, navigate to the color management controls at the bottom, and select "Override to Rec.709."

          Next, confirm that the sequence is set to Rec.709. You can now work on your project and export it as usual.
