Error retrieving frame / Frame substitution recursion attempt
Since updating to Premiere 22.4.0 every time I open an existing project or even when I start a new project and import new clips (.m2ts) I immediately receive alerts ine the events panel informing me of the following:
Events panel:
"Error retrieving frame 1 at time 00:00:00:01 from the file"...(filename & location)
"Error retrieving frame 2 at time 00:00:00:02 from the file"...(filename & location)
"Frame substitution recursion attempt aborting after multiple attempts on file".
It seems to struggle with a number of clips. Is Premiere now silently insisting that we transcode all footage into ProRes first without actually telling us that is waht we need to do?
I've seen some supposed fixes for this problem, which simply proposes switching from "CUDA playback" to "software only" in the Project Settings panel. Quite frankly this isn't a solution, Premiere is supposed to work with the NVidia GPU cards that we pay so much for after Adobe told us that we all need them to get better and faster performance.
Another problem I've had for several version of Premiere now is the inability to create preview thumbnails for clips. If I scrub through a clip in the project window and select "Set as Poster Frame", nothing happens and the same problem occurs if I use the keyboard shortcuts. The only way it works is to use the Preview Area to set poster frames fro clips, but this takes longer and is more tedious.
At a time when DaVinci Resolve is creating better and improving free software, Adobe seem to be going from bad to terrible. Absolute garbage from a comapny that is suposed to provide industry standard software. I've now wasted another afternoon on unsuccessfully trying to find a cause and fix for Adobe's problems instead of actually doing something creative.
