Error retrieving frame... substituting frame (2020 sudden problem with high frame-rate footage)

I've been editing high frame-rate footage from my gopro hero 7 camera for months now without any problems. Out of the blue, since beginning of February 2020 every time I try to edit the same type of footage, I get the following error message from premiere (check image attached).

My footage is missing frames and premiere has all kinds of problems trying to edit it. It keeps on crashing and nothing seems to fix the missing frame problem...
