Essential Graphics TEXT incompatible between AE text and Pr text?

Hi there!

Motion graphics artist/ Television reporter here.

While excited about the EGP I've run into a serious snag.
Our workflow is: we create title and text for broadcast in After Effects.  Im trying to create Graphic templates to be used for our editors in Premiere, however, the text layers I create in After effects and used in Premiere have NO font/color/or really any other control other than just the character replacement.

If I create something in Premiere with the Type tool, I get all the formatting etc.
Due to various reasons, I cant just create them in Premiere.

Is there something Im missing here?
I've looked through all the documentation and cannot find any information about this.

TL;DR

Why is it the Text layers from AE Motion graphics templates seem totally different than Premiere Text Tool Template?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Stanislaw,

Unfortunately, these are not supported properties (as of now) and cannot be moved in the timeline. You might find this capability in future, please submit a feature request and I will also advocate on your behalf.

Click the Solo Supported Properties button in the panel (in After Effects), the button filters the properties and displays the supported properties in the timeline.

Thanks,

Seeing that this is an old post you might have find some workarounds already. I can't help you with changing the font in Premiere but as far as changing the font color(and other properties) you use adjustment layers as a workaround.

Add an adjustment layer (above text) then add an effect, like "change to color"(or whatever effect you want). Next, add a checkbox control(in effects) to turn the "change to color" on or off. Then go into the adjustment layer's opacity and add(alt+click "opacity" stopwatch symbol) and paste in the following expression: if(effect("Checkbox Control")("Checkbox")== 1) 100 else 0;  This expression says that if the checkbox is checked then opacity=100, if not opacity=0. Using adjustment layers and the controlbox control will give you ways to work around features that aren't currently available. Hope this helps.

The Adobe help documentation here Create Motion Graphics templates with Essential Graphics panel states:

Font controls

When you add a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel, you can modify and control the font family, font style, size, and faux styles of that layer in a Motion Graphics template. Use the following steps to add font property controls to the panel:

  •   Add the Source Text property of a text layer to the Essential Graphics panel.

  •   Click Edit Properties option on the right side of the control row.

Select the font properties to control from the following options:
  • Enable Custom Font Selection - Adds the Font Family and Font Style controls.
  • Enable Font Size Adjustment - Adds the Font Size control.
  • Enable Faux Styles - Adds Faux Bold, Faux Italic, All Caps, and Small Caps controls.

Doesn't seem to work. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. If this does not work would you please pull it from the website?
