Essential Graphics- Track Style doesn't save all properties for Captions

When I create a new caption style and then attempt to either save it as a new Track Style or else Push to All Captions on Track, it does not save the Align and Transform properties.  So positioning of the captions does not apply to other captions on the track.

Perfect 👍 here’s the step-by-step way to set position for the entire caption track in Premiere so it sticks for all captions at once:

---

Apply Position to the Whole Caption Track

1. Select the Caption Track

In your timeline, click on the caption track header (on the far left, where it says Subtitle Track 1 or similar).

This selects the entire track, not just one caption block.

2. Open the Essential Graphics Panel

Go to Window → Essential Graphics if it’s not already open.

3. Switch to Edit Mode

In Essential Graphics, click the Edit tab.

4. Adjust Align & Transform

Under Align & Transform, move the captions (Position X/Y or use the onscreen transform handles).

Because the track is selected, the adjustment applies across all captions on that track.

5. Check New Captions

Any new captions you add to this track will follow the same global positioning.

Tip: If you want multiple different positions (like some captions top-center and others bottom-center), you’ll need to create separate caption tracks and position each track differently.

Best quick fix right now: adjust Align & Transform on the whole caption track instead of expecting it to carry with Track Styles.

What’s happening

When you create a Caption Track Style or use Push to All Captions on Track, only text appearance properties (font, size, fill, stroke, shadow, background, etc.) are saved/applied.

Align & Transform (position, anchor point, scale, rotation) are not stored in Track Styles.

Adobe designed it that way because caption positioning is supposed to follow “per-block” placement rules (e.g., lower third, upper third) rather than a global style. That’s why Track Styles don’t carry over those values.

Workarounds

1. Manually set position on the whole track

Select the caption track in the timeline (not just one block).

In the Essential Graphics panel, go to Align & Transform.

Adjust the position there → it applies to the entire track consistently.

2. Use “Upgrade Caption to Graphic”

Right-click a caption → Upgrade Caption to Graphic.

Now it behaves like a normal Essential Graphics item, and you can use Master Styles (which do include position).

Downside: you lose live captioning behavior (e.g., export as .srt).

3. Nest captions and apply position globally

Put the caption track into a nested sequence.

Apply position/scale to the nested sequence instead of individual captions.

4. Feature request / workaround acknowledgement

Adobe’s own documentation and forums confirm this limitation. Many editors have requested “position in Track Style” support, but as of Pr

emiere Pro 25.2 (2025) it isn’t implemented.

When you create a new style, it should be applied to all the captions on the track. If you find that it is not working, post a screenshot and provide more information about what alignment is not sticking.

For push to track (does not change alignment) and push to style (does change alignment), see my post here:

I've had the same problems since the new captions were released a couple of years ago. Here's a recent example with screenshots.

1) On the first caption of the track I customize the caption style and I also change the alignment, bringing the y value at -144. Then I click the button "Redifine Style" under the panel "Track Style" (indicated with the arrow on top right in both images) and I select apply to all captions on track.

2) The result is shown in the second screenshot. All properties are applied except "Align and Transform."

What's the problem here? How can I batch modify the alignment of my captions in a proper way?

@defaultbfa5g52ebner,

More complicated that I realized.

Do you NEED to update the style to apply only to this one track in the project with this style? The easier workaround is to create a new style. Updating gets confusing because the style name does not change.

I need to spend some more try testing the options.

I agree that limited the redefine to the current track does not work as expected.
