Even Tech Support Couldn't Fix .AVI Problem

I edit on ASUS Laptop, GTX 960 Core 7i, Win10, 64bit.

I suddenly have a problem with editing AVI file from my Pentax K5. I've been editing AVI files from this camera for 7 years and one year on this system in CC. The audio plays fine, but monitors are black. Files play fine on media players.

Tech says the problem was reproduced on their end.

Anyone else have the same problem? Have a fix?

Thanks,

Bryan

Your problem is pretty simple... you're using AVI.

AVI is a bunch of shitake mushrooms, but the reason you're having issues with it now is because a couple of months ago when Adobe updated PP it stopped recognising that format. Use Windows Movie Maker to convert the AVI to another format.

Ok, , but why? And AVI is still listed as an acceptable file format on there website.

Premiere Pro CC supported file formats

I've been editing avi for about 8 years on PP. Why did they feel an urge to make it obsolete? And why do I have to pay for this software until I die? I really don't need all these bug fixes they put out, that create more bugs... Sorry for the rant...

Thanks

Go back a version and see if the issue is still there

or

Might need to re-install the mjpeg codec.

Couple questions - When did this start? After a Premiere update? An OS update? A GPU update? Are you using GPU acceleration? If so, have you tried turning it off?

I had not edited avi in a couple of months and found the problem yesterday. No problem editing mov. There was an Adobe update, but I can't tell you which one. No OS update, no hardware changes to computer.

I was using GPU accelerator. We changed it to software only, and still the problem persisted.
