Export and render difference

I recently just started using Premiere Pro.  I have been using Vegas Pro for over 15 years and the change is a little hard.  In Vegas in order to finish your project you had to render it.  Once it was rendered you had a finished product.  How does the render in PP compare to Vegas?  Is export more of the render?  Can anyone set me straight?  Thanks.

In Premiere language 'render' is what you do while editing to make the timeline play smoother, 'Export' is what you do to get your finished film.

Most of the time one does not have to render (make preview files) at all. At least I don't.

Richard, that's what I thought but just wanted to make sure.

Ann, I have noticed that.  Most of the material does play back smoother while editing in PP. I don't render it either to play back.  I do like some things about Vegas better but I'm still not used to PP.
