Question

Export error when adding subtitles

Hello, I've been having an issue and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

suddenly when I'm trying to export videos with subtitles, as soon as I add the subtitles into the track, the video goes black. If I try to export, its just a black video.

if I hide the subtitles layer, the video comes back on. Sometimes I get it to where the subtitles do show on the video, but as soon as I hit export, the video goes black and the export is a black video.

anyone know what to do with this issue?

I am getting the exact same error.  I have tried so many things to fix this but nothing is working.  I upgraded captions to graphics, nested in every way possible. Cleared cashe, new sequences, everything.  This is so frustrating because I usually export a version with captions for a client to review if they are really hands on.

Hi Rodrigo9912,

Thanks for confirming that. Would you mind checking if the subtitle sequence is exporting properly through Media Encoder?

@Kevin-Monahan

Turning them into graphics worked after a couple tries. At first it just turned it black, but it finally ended up exporting correctly. Its the same with the subtitles. It happens with certain projects and doesn't with others.

Thanks for the info

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the reply. I had no idea that was possible. I will try that and let you know!

Hey @Rodrigo9912,

I've been hearing about this issue more often lately. I'll report this back to the team. In the meantime, what happens if you create graphics from captions (Graphics and Titles > Upgrade Caption to Graphic)? Does it work then?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Stan,

Sorry I am just getting back to you. I got a new laptop, and I was hoping the error would fix itself in a more powerful laptop, but it didn't. It comes back less often, but sometimes I do get that problem again, so I can rule out the machine. I do think its something with Premiere.

I am running the latest version of Premiere (23.5.0)

I am attaching some screenshots to see if you know anything about it:

What version of PR are you running?

A screenshot would help of the timeline and program monitor, text panel -> captions tab, and essential graphic panel.
