I've been experiencing significantly longer export times in Adobe Premiere Pro lately, even for short videos. Can anyone suggest troubleshooting steps or settings adjustments that might help improve export speed?

    It’s hard to say exactly why your export times are slow without knowing more about your setup. Could you share some details about:

    • Your computer specs (CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage type).
    • The media you’re working with (resolution, codec, frame rate, etc.).
    • Your sequence settings (frame size, frame rate, audio sample rate).
    • Your export settings (format, bitrate, etc.).


    One of the most common reasons for slow export speeds is when your media and sequence settings don’t match. For example, if your media has a different frame size, frame rate, or audio sample rate than your sequence, Premiere Pro has to work harder to process those differences during export. Double-checking that your settings align can save time.

    I set my sequence preview codec to ProRes 422 HQ. When I export I use the "use Preview files" setting (I am always rendering the sequence when I have a pause) and then I use Media Encoder to compress the ProRes export to what I need. This help with complex effects like tracking not having to rerender.

    It’s helpful to know you’re using ‘Use Previews’ and rendering your sequence during pauses. However, I still don’t have most of the information I asked for earlier, like your system specs or full export settings, which makes it harder to pinpoint what might be causing the slower export times.

    That said, based on what you’ve shared, I have a few follow-up questions:

    • What codec are you exporting to initially? If you’re using Media Encoder afterward, does that mean you’re doing a second export? If so, what codec are you using there?
    • Keep in mind that ‘Use Previews’ only works when the export codec matches your sequence preview codec. For example, if your previews are rendered in ProRes 422 HQ but you export to H.264, Premiere Pro won’t use those preview files, which can affect export times.
