Extract Causes Premiere to Freeze - 2017 11.1.2(22)

Problem: Extracting from the timeline causes Premiere to freeze, only recoverable by killing the program.  It does not actually crash it.  This occurs either by a button press or using the menu.  This occurs with any file (tried making a new file and putting a color matte down and extracting part of it -- frozen). Obviously, I can't edit... Any thoughts? Thanks.
