Auto Reframe intelligently identifies the actions in your video and reframes the clips for different aspect ratios. This feature is really handy for posting your video to different social media channels such as Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook.

I'd like to propose a different use for Auto Reframe other than just for social media.

The scenario was receiving a conference talk video to re-edit.

The video had been shot from one position using a locked off, tripod mounted camera.

I can't show you the actual footage so this is just a representation:

So here is the problem. It's a very static boring shot and the presenter was walking back and forward over the slides.

Auto Reframe to the rescue.

Use it on the presenter to "cut" him out into a portrait narrow video eg 9x16 aspect ratio.

I was fortunate to have the presentation as a PDF document. Convert PDF to images. (see below)

Then use a mix of the original shot, the presentation images and the Auto Reframed presenter to

give a choice of three "angles" to cut to.

Here's the composite version I used.

I hope this helps someone if conferences / lectures come back in any form.

Convert PDF to images.

If you are on a mac, one way to do this is to make an Automator APP droplet.

You then simply drop the pdf file on it and it puts out an image for each page.

Here's the basic structure inside the Automator App:

Other methods exist on Windows etc.

Best regards, Euan.
