Final Cut 7 to Premiere, Premiere won't play the timeline

I'm trying to make the transition from Final Cut Pro 7 to Premiere CC 2017. This will be my fifth or six attempt. I'm so used to Final Cut that making the switch is difficult. I'm setting the stage here for the level of help I need.

So with that preamble—

I followed an Adobe video tutorial on migrating a project from Final Cut to Premiere. Everything seemed to work well. All the bins appeared. The sequence appeared in the Premiere timeline with all its pieces. But when I tried to play the project in Premiere, nothing happened. I can't play the project. In a previous thread that I found using the search function of the forum, one suggestion was to create a new project and import the project created with the Final Cut xml export into that second sequence. Opening a new project led to the spinning beach ball that's been going on for quite awhile as I write this.

I suppose the question is: what happened and what should I do?

Can I actually bring a Final Cut 7 project into Premiere CC or do I need to re-edit my film?

Many thanks,

Christopher B

Keith, I tried your approach. The new sequence appeared with all the clips showing as white boxes. I tried playing back the sequence which worked. Almost immediately the clips filled in with color and the sequence stopped playing. I was curious if a clip in a bin would play. When I clicked on the clip in the bin window, Mac's spinning beach ball started spinning as it's been doing for the past ten minutes while I ate lunch.

I'm going to take the approach suggested by Jim Simon above and simply start over from scratch with Premiere. I'm not too deeply into the editing of my film. Maybe this is a good opportunity to learn Premiere.

I Force Quit Premiere and we'll see how things go.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

    ChristopherB,

Have you tried copy/pasting clips into a new sequence? Please try that and report back.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

My recommendation for folks switching NLEs is to do so with new projects.  Finish current projects in the same NLE.

Thank you Jim. I was afraid someone might say something like that. With my experience that would have been my recommendation to someone else. I often don't like to take my own advice. I'll recreate the edit in Premiere and see how that goes. Many thanks.
