First world struggle alert...

I'm not sure what I'm doing to accidentally delete so much work in Premiere. After I finish a portion of my vlog and go to another to mix that in, I'll find that a certain layer has disappeared (my best guess is that I select the finished section while I'm working on another one and accidentally press "Delete"). Do you know a way to keep this from happening?
